Some gAPIng holes in service

You’ll notice that we’ve sort of fallen off the map. While I’d like to contribute that to Twitter’s API turning us off, the truth is we saw some huge problems with our program, some pretty easy ways to cheat.

Instead of putting all the burden on one guy to fix it, we’ve someone pulled the plug and while I slowy slowly learn myself some Ruby on Rails, we’re going to keep it on the back-burner.

So, after a few months, ok, maybe just one, we’ve entered the dead pool.

Maybe someday we’ll come back with full force.

How Fights Work

Ok, you’ve just started playing, or you’ve been playing awhile now and aren’t sure what we mean by “Agility, Strength, and Health.” That’s ok, I don’t get it either. But our coding genius (yeah, just one, want to help? Email help@tweetfight.com) told me how it works once;

When you send an attack, it triggers a full on battle in ones and zeros. Punches are thrown, dodged and health goes down. Your strength is how hard you can hit someone. Your agility is how successful you are at landing a punch or dodging one. Each player takes turns swinging at each other, sometimes you’ll land a punch, sometimes you’ll miss, each time you land one, depending on how strong you are, the other person’s health will drop. Once one person’s health drops to zero, a notification is sent out telling each person how they did. Of course, this all takes place in a matter of a second, and there’s a lot of math stuff that goes into it that our Math Man will have to explain at some point.

Now, if you’re new, and unsure of who you can fight, go to http://twitter.com/tweetfight/followers, look through there and send a direct message with ’stats username‘ to TweetFight of one of our other followers to find out if they are worth fighting. If you are being followed by TweetFight, you can now play.

Scoring System

We’re unhappy with the current scoring system. We have some ideas of how we could improve it. Before we do, we want to get your ideas. Let us know what you think would work in the comments below.

Right now, it’s set up so that you get 1 point from anyone within 91-110% of your score, 0 if they are below and 2 if they are above that.

The New Stamina

So we tweeked the code a bit. There were 2 things that we changed.

We fixed it so it shouldn’t die as much. I’m not saying it won’t die, just saying that the bugs we have been dealing with the last few days shouldn’t be an issue.

This is the big one. Stamina has changed. It still costs you 3 stamina points per fight. But you will never get it all back in one big burst. It comes at you a bit at a time. Every 30 minutes you will get 1/24th of your base stamina (the amount of stamina you can hold).

An example. If you have a stamina of 48 and have used all your fights, in 30 minutes you will have 2 new stamina points. In one hour you will have 4 stamina points and can fight again.

Sounds complicated, but this will get you guys back to your jobs.

Oh, and to answer the question. It rounds. I don’t know how, but it does. Just trust me, it rounds, for everyone.

Ratio of Ability Points

I like this chart because it’s pretty. I also like it because it gives an idea of what skills people value. It doesn’t do much for helping you know where you stand in the ratings, but it might give you an idea of where you need to focus your ability points. Click for a larger view.

How-To Play, vs. 1

First, you need to be following @tweetfight and @tweetfight needs to be following you.

send a direct message to @tweetfight

What you can send;

  • attack @username - this will fire off a fight between you and someone
  • stats - this will give you your stats
  • stats @username - this will give you someone else’s stats
  • up item - where item is either health, stamina, agility, or strength. This is based on ability points you recieve during game play

How does a game look? Here are some of the responses you will get from the various things sent.

More will come.
